What is ChefTap and what does its export look like?

ChefTap is an Android recipe app (also accessible via the web at cheftap.com). Its export drops a cheftap_export/ folder onto your device, with one plain-text file per recipe. Each file holds the title, ingredients, instructions, and metadata in a conventional layout.

Will my ingredients and tags be preserved?

Yes. We detect the conventional Ingredients / Instructions / Notes sections in each .txt file and split them into structured fields. Tags and times when present; note that source URLs and images are not included in ChefTap exports.

Can I move my ChefTap recipes to another app?

Yes — convert to JSON or .cook here, then import into the destination app. Schema.org JSON-LD works in Mealie, Tandoor, Paprika, and most modern recipe apps.

How to export from ChefTap

Open ChefTap

Launch the app on your Android device or visit cheftap.com.

Tap the Menu (⋮) button

Open your recipe list, tap the Menu (⋮) button, and choose Export Recipes.

Find the export folder

On Android, exports go to ChefTap/Export in your storage. On iOS, the export is delivered as a zip via the share sheet.

Zip and upload

Compress the cheftap_export folder into a .zip, transfer it to your computer, and drag it into the upload area above.

Why convert ChefTap recipes?

ChefTap's plain-text export is friendly to read but useless as a backup if you switch apps — no other recipe manager imports a folder of .txt files natively.

That's the gap this page closes. We parse the conventional section layout back into structured fields, so the output works cleanly in any other recipe tool, prints to a recipe card, or drops into a spreadsheet.
