What is Nextcloud Cookbook?

Nextcloud Cookbook is a recipe manager that runs as a Nextcloud app. Unlike most recipe apps it doesn't use a database — recipes are stored as plain folders inside your Nextcloud Files. Each recipe is a folder containing recipe.json (Schema.org JSON-LD) plus full.jpg and thumb.jpg image files.

How do I export my recipes from Nextcloud Cookbook?

There's no separate export — the recipes are already files. In Nextcloud, open Files and navigate to your Recipes folder (top-level by default). The exact path is configurable under Cookbook → Settings → Recipe folder. Right-click the folder and choose Download — Nextcloud zips it server-side and streams it back. Upload that zip here.

What gets preserved in the conversion?

Effectively everything. Cookbook stores each recipe as Schema.org JSON-LD natively, so the conversion is near-lossless: title, description, ingredients, instructions, times, yield, keywords, nutrition, source URL, and images all carry through unchanged into our schema.org-based output formats.

Can I migrate from Nextcloud Cookbook to Mealie or Tandoor?

Yes — convert to JSON-LD here, then import into Mealie or Tandoor. Both accept Schema.org JSON-LD as an import format, and because Cookbook is already storing JSON-LD, this migration is the cleanest of the three self-hosted options.

How to export from Nextcloud Cookbook

Find your Recipes folder

In Nextcloud, open the Files app. By default, Cookbook stores recipes in a top-level Recipes/ folder. If yours is somewhere else, the path is shown in Cookbook → Settings → Recipe folder.

Right-click → Download

Right-click the Recipes folder and choose Download. Nextcloud zips the entire folder server-side and streams it back as a single .zip — no client-side bundling required.

Confirm the structure

Inside the zip you should see one subfolder per recipe, each with recipe.json plus image files. That's the shape we expect — no further preparation needed.

Why convert Nextcloud Cookbook?
